Know what you breathe

AirMQ is a community environmental monitoring project. Sensors installed by residents measure air quality, water level and weather, and the data is open to everyone

Data

Current and historical measurements from every public sensor - on the map, in the app and through the open API under CC BY 4.0

Map

Hardware

We design sensor devices that suit our project and any other monitoring task. The manufacturing and assembly documentation is open under CERN-OHL-P-2.0

  • PM1, PM2.5, PM10
  • Temperature and humidity
  • Pressure
  • CO2
  • VOC and NOx
  • Groundwater level
  • Background radiation

AirMQ devices

Outdoor stations run on mains power or a solar panel and send data over WiFi. Where there is no WiFi, solar-powered LoRa nodes send data by radio to a gateway up to 12 km away, and the gateway passes it to the server over LTE or WiFi

Build your own

If you are handy with a soldering iron, build a sensor from our guide and connect it to AirMQ

About

We are a group of tech enthusiasts. AirMQ brings together people who care about the air they breathe, using modern sensors and Internet of Things technology

Air pollution is one of the main health risks: fine PM2.5 particles cause cardiovascular, respiratory and oncological disease. The more sensors there are, the better we know what is happening to the air in our cities
