AirMQ Terms of Use: open data and public API

Valid from 18 October 2026

The current version of these Terms of Use is available at https://airmq.cc/en-terms/.

1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to anyone who reads, downloads or reuses measurements published by the AirMQ sensor network (“Data“), whether through the AirMQ public map, data exports or the AirMQ public programming interface at https://api.airmq.cc/graphql (“API“). For users of the management panel and the mobile application, these terms also set out, in Section 4, what a device owner grants when adding a location.

How AirMQ handles personal data is described in the AirMQ Privacy Policy (English, Russian).

AirMQ is operated by Zmicer Herylovich, Nezavisimosti ave. 91a, Minsk, Republic of Belarus (“AirMQ“, “we“), who is also the data controller named in the Privacy Policy.

By using the Data or the API, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Data or the API.

2. The Data

  • The Data comes from low-cost sensors installed and maintained by volunteers, partners and the AirMQ team. It is not produced by certified reference instruments and is not official monitoring data.
  • Measurements are calibrated by AirMQ, but they can still be inaccurate, delayed, incomplete or wrong, for example because of sensor faults, humidity, power or connectivity loss, or installation conditions. Data may be corrected, recalculated or removed after publication.
  • Air quality indices published with the Data (such as IKAV and AQI) are indicative. They are calculated from the particulate measurements available to AirMQ and are not the official indices published by state monitoring services.
  • Do not use the Data for decisions where an error could harm health, safety or property, including medical decisions, emergency response or regulatory compliance, without independent confirmation from an official source.

3. Licence to reuse the Data

The Data is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/, to the extent AirMQ holds the rights to license it: data from AirMQ’s own sensors and from public locations whose owners granted the licence under Section 4.

You may copy, redistribute, adapt and build on the Data, including commercially, provided you give attribution:

Data: AirMQ (https://airmq.cc), CC BY 4.0

Where practical, also state that the Data comes from low-cost sensors and may contain errors, and indicate whether you changed it (for example, averaged or filtered it).

The licence covers the Data only. The AirMQ name and logo are not licensed under it; do not use them in a way that suggests AirMQ endorses you or your product.

4. Data from device owners

Anyone who installs a sensor and adds its location to AirMQ (“device owner“) makes that location public. By adding a location, the device owner allows AirMQ to publish its measurements, name and location, and to license them to anyone under CC BY 4.0 as described in Section 3, and confirms that they own the sensor or are authorised to operate it at that place.

A device owner can stop publication by removing (archiving) the location; AirMQ then stops publishing and licensing its new measurements. Measurements already published under CC BY 4.0 remain licensed: that licence cannot be withdrawn from people who have already received the Data.

5. Using the API

  • The public API needs no account. Use it reasonably: cache results you reuse, prefer the documented queries, and do not send more requests than your use requires.
  • Do not attempt to access data or functions that are not documented as public, to bypass any limits, or to disrupt the service or other users.
  • We may limit, suspend or block access for any client that breaches these terms or puts the service at risk, without notice.
  • If you build something on the API, please identify it, for example with an informative User-Agent header, so that we can contact you before changes that affect you.

6. Availability and changes

The API and the Data are provided free of charge, as is and as available. We do not promise that they will be available, uninterrupted, timely or error-free. We may change, deprecate or withdraw any part of the API or the Data at any time. We try to announce significant changes in advance in the API documentation and in the AirMQ Telegram channel.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, AirMQ is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or the inability to use, the Data or the API, including any decision taken on the basis of the Data.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version, with its “valid from” date, is always available at https://airmq.cc/en-terms/. Continued use of the Data or the API after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Applicable law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Belarus.
